Bay Area Gets Seventh Wireless Player

With the launch of T-Mobile last month San Francisco Bay Area residents have a choice of six national wireless carriers. Now they have a seventh option, MetroPCS. The company has unlimited local calling plans similar to Leap Wireless. The $35 per month plan is designed for people who never leave Northern California. San Francisco is only the third market where MetroPCS has service. They are being very conservative hoping to avoid some of the mistakes of financially troubled competitor Leap. While we don’t think national carriers have anything to fear from MetroPCS, it could cut into the prepaid market.
