The Web As An AI Brain

from the chock-full-of-useless-info dept

The Washington Post has an article exploring ways in which some are trying to harness the vast quantities of both useful and useless info on the web to create an artificial intelligence. The article mostly focuses on ActiveBuddy’s SmarterChild IMBot which scours the web (though in a guided way) to automatically generate answers to queries from users. The problem, of course, is that none of these systems have any common sense (yet). They can scour away, and can sometimes mimic human behavior, but they don’t seem even remotely close to understanding things yet.
