In the past two weeks there have been a number of stories all over the web calling into question out impending cyberdoom from electronic terrorists. Now, News.com is putting together a three part series looking at whether or not all this talk of cyberterrorism is diverting attention from more serious threats. Today’s article tries to look at what the real cyberterror threats are and to throw some cold water on areas that have been overhyped and blown out of proportion by urban myths and flat out exaggerations. Certainly, there are potentially damaging things that can be done through a cyberattack, but the amount of knowledge, planning, and effort required to bring about some mayhem but very little physical damage seems to suggest that the threat of a terrorist planned cyberattack isn’t very high.
