The Race For Space… Tourism

from the growing-outward dept

Newsweek is running an interesting article about the growing interest in space tourism. While the grand total of space tourists up until now has been two (each of whom paid $20 million for the privilege), others are looking to make it cheaper (though, not yet, “cheap”) and much more luxurious. There are some disagreements, though, and the folks from MirCorp, who are running the current $20 million deal, think that too much emphasis on cheaper space tourism is dangerous. They think it’s way too early and way too dangerous to be sending a lot of people up into space. Of course, when there’s the possibility of making lots of money, it seems that safety concerns may take a backseat.
