Municipal Wireless ISPs

Last year I was surprised to find out that Aerie Networks was trying to bring back Ricochet by partnering with local governments, who could then offer high speed wireless internet access as a utility. Now, however, there are more and more stories of local governments providing wireless internet access to their communities. It’s often focused on communities that are out of the way, where major telecom providers aren’t paying any attention. The goal, of course, for governments to offer wireless broadband is to convince businesses to open offices in their communities.
