Microsoft Can Have The Desktop
News.com is running an interview with Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of alternative browser maker Opera Software. The interview is mostly about how such a small player decides to stay in a market clearly dominated by Microsoft. Their answer seems to be that MS can have the desktop market, Opera is going after the wireless and set top box markets. Sounds good, but isn’t MS going after those markets as well? In the end I think Opera has survived simply because they provide a pretty usable alternative. But that only works till your investors get worried about their money.
