The Librarian's Web Dilemma

from the the-difference-between-the-post-and-the-times dept

On Tuesday, I was complaining about a terrible article in the Washington Post about librarians debating what to do concerning internet filters on their computers. That article seemed to suggest that the court ruling was because the judges thought everyone should always have free access to porn and never once mentioned the fact that the filters don’t work (which was the real reason behind the judges’ decision). The NY Times, today, has their own version of that same article with much more balanced coverage. Librarians are certainly concerned about what to do and some still think filters are an answer. However, most agree that it’s a local issue that should be decided by the library in question, and not the federal government.
