Who Needs A Post Office?
from the get-rid-of-it dept
I guess today is “bash the Founding Fathers” day on Techdirt, as it’s the second article we’ve posted in the span of a few hours that involves pointing out how the folks who wrote the US Constitution didn’t think all the way through to the internet. This article points out that US Postal Service is a huge monetary blackhole that should be done away with. They’ve been unable to be consistently profitable, and the increasing use of communications technology makes them less and less likely to ever become a profitable, efficient business.

Where does it say in the constitution that the postal service has to be profitable? If it was profitable then there would be no need for the government to provide it, right?
Re: No Subject Given
Actually, I agree with you on that point. But, if the service can be done better without wasting taxpayer money… then what’s the reason for having it?
The original point was that the services of the post office couldn’t be done without help from the government. However, if they can be done… then why keep the post office around?

last time i checked police, army and whole governement was not profitable too. we keep post office because it is part of infrastructure that keeps this country running.
