Deep Linking – The Story So Far

from the why-must-this-go-on? dept

The issue of deep linking was one that I thought went away four or five years ago after people began to understand how the web worked. However, it seems a new generation of confused people, and there have been a whole slew of deep linking cases showing up lately. We discussed some of these as they came about, but the AP is running an article that has a pretty good summary of the issues concerning deep linking. They even mention the point that I’ve been screaming about for years. If sites don’t want people to deep link to them (a shortsighted idea, in my mind) there are technology solutions. The legal solutions are a waste of time and money (and generally make the companies involved look silly).
