Dead Men Tell No Passwords

from the whoops dept

It seems that the guy in charge of Norway’s digital archive of important historical archives did too good a job of keeping his password a secret. He died a few years back, and since then no one has been able to access portions of the archive. The director of the center in charge of the archive has now asked for some hackers to help crack his password so they can again get access. Apparently, they’ve gotten quite a response, and are now sifting through the “applications” to find the hacker they want. Update: Computerworld has an article with some more details. It seems the guy died nine years ago.
