Online Groceries Slow But Steady Pace

from the not-changing-the-world dept

For years, it was almost fun to watch one online grocery store after another make the same mistakes over again. They all claimed they were “changing the world” by letting people buy groceries online, and now most are either out of business, or shells of their former selves. Into that void, the actual supermarkets have stepped in to provide online grocery shopping. They’re not hyping it nearly as much, and they simply see it as one more way of reaching customers. So far, the investment hasn’t paid off, but most orders are making money (they say the delivery fee is a little too low to cover the cost, but they make it up on the food margins).
