Flat Rate 2.5G, Sort Of

from the nice-try dept

Two days ago Nextel announced that they are offering a national 2.5G data service. The network uses compression technology from Bytemobile to achive average rates of 30 Kbps. But what we didn’t notice till today was the flat-rate pricing of $54.99 per month, probably a first for 2.5G data. Granted since they are using compression to achieve 2.5G speeds it’s not really 2.5G, but it should put some pressure on the rest of the market.
