Wireless Funding Gets More Conservative

Wireless start-ups are getting hit hard by the general telecom malaise and general confusion in the US wireless market. For a short period VCs were putting tons into wireless but now they have become much more conservative. I think one of the big problems with the early wireless internet start-ups was that they were founded by internet people rather telecom people. They just didn’t know how to effectively deal with carriers who are a pretty finicky bunch. Not only that, but US carriers don’t seem too interested in developing and supporting a wide ranging wireless economy beyond the services they can provide directly to subscribers. This attitude is very short sighted.
