We’re finally getting past the the Wi-Fi versus 3G debate as mobile phone manufacturers are planning to launch Wi-Fi capable cell phones. LG thinks they can have a product on the market by 2004. The biggest problem is Wi-Fi’s battery consumption: it’s still too power hungry for a typical cell phone battery – partly because the Wi-Fi chip is constantly scanning for a network. But what if you could just turn the Wi-Fi chip off when its not in use?
