How Not To Do Trademarks

from the the-Microsoft-way dept

Here’s a column looking at the various trademark problems Microsoft is facing which has some suggestions on trademark decisions. Basically, he says, don’t do what Microsoft did. Don’t chose a generic name. Don’t bully other companies (it can come back to haunt you – as Microsoft is discovering since they may lose their Windows trademark in a lawsuit they started), and last (but not least) the lawyer who wrote the column suggests that you have a lawyer present when you decide what you want to trademark – so they can tell you you’re being crazy.
