Yet Another Music Storage Format

from the because-we-don't-have-enough dept

Oh, just what we need. Yet another, different, music storage format. This one comes from the company DataPlay, and it’s basically a tiny disc the size of a quarter that holds five to 11 hours of music. That’s pretty impressive, actually, but it also comes with copy protection built in. Trying to introduce an entirely new format into the market as a single company can’t be easy, either. They have signed on some fairly big names to put out albums on the discs – but it seems to me that the real advantage is being able to record music onto the discs – and with the copy protection, a lot of that advantage goes away.
