Kids Only Internet?

from the sponsored-by-Disney? dept

A Congressional panel is taking a look at whether or not a kid safe portion of the internet should be created at .kids.us. The idea is that kid safe sites could be put up at someaddress.kids.us which would prevent the need for “filters” to block out access to non-kid safe sites for kids whose parents felt they needed to block out most of the world. It’s an interesting idea, and it certainly beats requiring filters, but I’m not sure how many people would actually use such a thing. There is a chicken and egg problem in getting enough content providers to switch to the new domain if there’s no evidence that people are using it.
