IBM Designs Changing Computer

IBM’s research group has put together an intersting “changeable” computing concept called the Meta Pad. It’s basically the core parts of a computer in a very small package that can be moved around and plugged into a number of different “devices” that will become that computer. So, when you’re at home, you could plug it into your desktop “accessory” and you have access to your computer as a desktop. On the road you could plug it into a laptop accessory, and it works as a laptop. Or, while in a meeting, plug it into the PDA accessory, and it works as a PDA. Basically, you have a computer that can change to whatever form factor is most appropriate for the setting. It seems like a pretty cool idea – but one that won’t actually be offered to consumers for quite some time (if ever).
