Tivo To Spy On Super Bowl Watchers
from the just-how-do-you-use-your-tivo? dept
Tivo is saying that for this year’s Super Bowl they’re going to spy on how users watch the game (and the commercials). They’re going to keep track of when people fast forward and rewind, and which parts they’re most interested in. I imagine this will be their way of demonstrating the sort of beyond-Nielsen info they’ll be able to generate about Tivo users and how they watch TV. I wonder if people will get annoyed that Tivo is watching their every click of the remote? Of course, Tivo apparently needs to do something because people still aren’t rushing out to buy them. I still think they really need to pretty much give the boxes away. People aren’t buying them because they still cost too much.

too expensive -- maybe
if you already have directv, a direct/tivo combo unit is a cheap upgrade to your receiver ($99 for either Hughes or Philips units).
At that price, I bought two — replacing both my top-of-the-line Sony directv recievers.
The stand-alone or cable-ready versions ARE too expensive, I agree

Actually there are incredible promo deals on DirecTivo + free install on a DirectTV satellite dish. You can get the Directv receiver with the Tivo built in and a dish with install for $29-$49 now. I finally decide to ditch digital cable as a result.
