Do Etailers Need Online Malls?

from the does-anyone-use-an-online-mall? dept

Personally, I’ve never gone to any “online mall” looking to buy something I need. I’ll generally go to a few sites I know, or possibly a comparison shopping engine. However, it seems that quite a few people do head over to Yahoo shopping or MSN’s shopping site every day. So, does it help an online store to be a part of such a mall? There seems to be a mixed opinion – but overall whaterver benefit the online mall provides is small, and getting smaller all the time. Most people go directly to online retailer sites based on knowing about them or hearing about them through word-of-mouth or an offline advertisement. While some traffic does come from these online malls – it’s unclear if there’s a real benefit.
