Facts? Who Needs Them?

Well, I’m sure this comes as no surprise to most people, but in the past few months news coverage has shifted away from facts and towards assertions and opinions. Immediately following September 11, news organizations actually did a pretty good job sticking to the facts. But, in the following months, they’re slipping more and more towards assertions and opinions in place of facts. Television is (not surprisingly) the main culprit, as only 57% of TV news reports were based on facts. Print sources were around 82%.
