Registrars Not Happy With Verisign Wait List

from the monopoly-powers dept

The other registrars are all pretty angry about Verisign’s plan to create a domain waiting list feature that anyone can use to try to snap up a domain if the current owner lets it expire. They feel that Verisign is flexing its monopoly powers and are charging too much for the service. It sounds like a lot of the points raised by the registrars make sense – which makes me wonder why Verisign didn’t go out and maybe talk to some of these companies before just announcing the plan. Considering the plan is really to sell this service to the registrars, you would think the smart marketing person would want to talk with his or her customers and find out what they wanted and what would be useful.
