Networking The Infrastructure

from the route-around-damage dept

An interesting article from MIT’s Tech Review about how, in the wake of September 11, many researchers are using the internet’s concept of “routing around damage” to figure out better ways to protect our physical infrastructure of buildings, utilities, and water supplies. Mostly, it seems to involve using monitoring systems that will help to alert people of possible damage more quickly – and to more effectively switch over to a safer system. Many of these systems will take a while before they are ready, but (not surprisingly) plenty of funding seems to be heading in that direction.
