InfoSpace Trying To Buy Excite

from the pennies-on-the-dollar dept

Just a few years after @Home bought Excite.com for $7.8 billion, the (now bankrupt) company is trying to pawn off the portal side of the business to InfoSpace for only $10 million. It’s a slightly more complicated deal than that, though. InfoSpace will then immediately pass the Excite portal off to iWon, who will fold it into their portal for suckers. InfoSpace will get to run the search and directory services for the site. As far as I can tell this sounds as though InfoSpace is paying $10 million just to get a new customer. Seems a bit strange.
