Porn Blocking Software

from the getting-better? dept

MSNBC has an article about the latest in email filtering software that is supposed to block the sending of email porn in work places, schools and libraries. The software tries to figure out if any attached images are pornographic. Apparently, the software has gotten much better in the past few years, but will still decide that a picture of a baby (or occasionally a picture of a twig in a forest?!?) is porn. They say that 1 to 2% of all work email includes some sort of porn. That seems a bit insane to me. Don’t these people have anything better to do then send porn to each other all day? Anyway, they’re also talking about using the software for other things, like keeping company plans inside the company or preventing unwanted pictures from going up on eBay.
