The More Microsoft Changes, The More They Stay The Same

from the don't-miss-with-Microsoft dept

The Economist looks at how much Microsoft is changing as they get ready to launch Windows XP, the XBox and .NET. Some of these products bring Microsoft into very different territories than it has been before – though, it’s still unclear how successful they’ll be. However, no matter what, Microsoft’s strategy in dealing with these markets remains the same. They will do anything to hold a dominant position in the market place. The article describes the typical “embrace and extend” strategy of Microsoft when it’s entering a market that someone else already has a lead in. They suggest that to combat this image of the evil Microsoft, it would make sense for them to settle the anti-trust suit as quickly as possible, which still seems unlikely. Microsoft isn’t the type of company that likes to “settle” anything.
