COPA: Bad Legislation

from the well,-duh dept

It is actually somewhat surprising that over the past few years, COPA (Child Online Protection Act) hasn’t received more attention. I guess that unlike the CDA (Communications Decency Act), which was found to be unconstitutional, COPA sounds like this family-friendly law – and who wants to make it sound like they don’t want to “protect” children. Of course, it’s a terrible law that simply makes it illegal to put material “harmful to minors” online, with no way of really determining what “harmful to minors” is. Anyway, the law is finally going to be reviewed by the Supreme Court. It’s really pretty scary how consistently bad the US government has been in enacting laws about the internet.
