Newspapers At Your Doorstep… Electronically

from the good-business?--bad-business? dept

The NY Times takes a look at the business of NewspaperDirect, which sends easily printed copies of all different types of newspapers to places like hotels. This way, if a customer wants a newspaper from anywhere in the world (as long as it’s in the NewspaperDirect system), the hotel just needs to print it out. The system also came in handy following September 11, when planes were grounded and it was impossible to ship newspapers out to distant locations. People point out that this cuts down the distribution costs, but I imagine that’s made up for in the increased printing costs – though the printing costs are paid for by the hotel and not the newspaper any more.
