Robots With A Friendly Face
from the how-nice dept
A good article about research being done to make robots a lot friendlier so people will be happy to deal with them. The main thing they’re working on now is getting a robot to act with more social conventions by giving it a human face, with regular facial expressions, and a more natural voice. The system makes sure it looks at the people it’s talking to and smiles at them. I’m debating if this is nice, or just creepy.

MIT made a sociable robot years ago–the only difference is this robot is real (camera in its eyes, zillions of motors to control mouth, ears
and eyelids, etc).
Regular Facial Expressions
Regular Facial Expressions. Oh man that’s rich. I can’t wait until Perl supports them.
I think I need a hobby 🙂
