Reuters vs. Mr. Reters For Reters.com

from the silly-cybersquating-rules dept

The whole cybersquatting situation is messed up. We knew that. The latest ridiculousness (found, as always, by the Register) is that a Mr. Stanley Reters felt (rightfully so) that he had more right to reters.com than Reuters, the news organization that currently owns the domain. Common sense says he’s probably right (though, he would have had a much better argument if he had owned the domain first). Reuters, however, is not common sense, and told Mr. Reters they’re keeping the domain because it’s “too similar” to their own name.
