Expanding Wiretap Abilities

from the good-or-bad? dept

I’ve been hearing lots of talk from people who are more afraid of how everything that’s going on is going to hurt our civil liberties. I imagine they’ll have a field day with today’s efforts to expand the FBI’s wiretapping abilities. As I type this, they’re on TV detailing what they mean – and none of it seems to really infringe any further on civil rights. They basically want to allow wiretaps (with a judge’s approval) for an “individual”, as opposed to having to get each phone number approved. I’m sure there’s probably more stuff that they’re not explaining to as well. I’m also sure that very soon people will explain why this is a dangerous precedant for our civil liberties.
