What If You Built A Wireless Village And No One Came?

from the it-takes-a-whole-village dept

Wired has an article looking at a community in Virginia that has been built for low and middle income families – that was built with wireless internet access for everyone. The problem is that no one is using it. While it’s available, and there’s definitely interest, the expense of buying a computer and the necessary card to hook into the wireless network is proving to be too much for many of the residents. At the same time, most of them don’t know how to set up the system either. They’re now trying to organize themselves to get group discounts, and maybe get some help in setting up the computers and access. Still, it will be interesting to see how popular the wireless internet access becomes for people in that community.
