Can We (Should We?) Regulate Science?

from the big-questions dept

A good article looking at the issues involved in regulating scientific research. Obviously, there’s a lot that can be said on this, and lots of people have very strong opinions, but this article clearly brings up a number of the questions. While governments have different methods of preventing certain types of research being done (described as the “iron fist” of law and the “velvet glove” of federal funding), there’s still a likelihood that science will continue marching forward. Maybe time is better spent figuring out ways to deal with the consequences (both good and bad) of such research than trying to create some sort of outright ban that is unlikely to work.
