Lockout Knocks Out Cingular Customers

from the where'd-we-put-the-damn-key? dept

Thousands of Cingular wireless customers in the Washington DC area were unable to use their mobile phones due to multiple power failures – which couldn’t be fixed because no one could find the key to a Cingular switching station. Yup. You read that correctly. There was a power failure. Then the backup generator failed. So, they sent out some technicians to repair things, and when they got to the switching station it was deserted and locked. “We couldn’t just break in” was the claim from an official on the scene.
