Rhythms Files For Chapter 11

from the no-surprise-there dept

I no longer have DSL. I cancelled it after way too many problems in dealing with DSL providers. However, back in April (after I’d lost DSL due to NorthPoint shutting down their network with 24 hours notice), I was talking to a customer service representative about the fact that they were switching me to Rhythms. I asked him what their contingency plans were for when Rhythms ran into trouble (they’d already admitted they weren’t sure they could survive). He responded by saying I was crazy to think Rythms was in trouble because the company was “solid”. He pointed out that they’d just brought on most of NorthPoint’s old customers, and it was just (he repeated) a really “solid company”. I then asked him about NorthPoint, and he said “yeah, that was a surprise because they were a really solid company”. This was the point at which I realized I shouldn’t be listening to this guy’s opinion any more. Anyway, today (just a few months after this conversation) Rhythms is filing for bankruptcy and admitting they don’t know if they’ll be able to keep going. I’m glad I’m no longer a DSL customer, because right now I’d be preparing to lose my connection again as I waited for the next “solid” provider to serve me for a month or two.
