Radical Librarians Take Center Stage In Copyright Battles
from the not-quite-as-interesting-as-it-sounds dept
When I read the title of this article, I was expecting to read about underground bands of librarians bombing record labels and stuff. It’s really not that exciting. The article just talks about how librarians suddenly are finding copyright holders threatening their basic premise of letting people borrow books for free. Suddenly book publishers, music labels, and companies like that are suggesting that what libraries do is against copyright law as well – and may try to limit their ability to do those things with new digital technologies. Who knew that the public libraries were really destroying our country’s notions of intellectual property law?

Dumb dumb dumb
I have to say that the fact that copyright holders going after libraries disgusts me. If they do that, then could it be claimed that copyright be the cause of a decline in literacy? I’m not going to purchase every single book I want to read, especially if I am just reading it for fun because I like the cover or the summary sounds cool or something. Also, I have to say this is the first time I have heard of library books and other materials referred to as content. I don’t remember, as a kid, saying, “OK, I’m heading over to the library to get some content!” See how the Internet has corrupted us?
