Major Advances Through Those Who Think Different

from the it's-all-about-the-paradigms dept

Some quotes from a Scott Cook (founder and chairman of Inuit) at an HBS talk where he said that real breakthroughs come from a unique mindset and not necessarily a technology advancement. He uses eBay as an example. Then he talks about how difficult it is for many people (especially “experts”) to change their mind view about certain things. He uses Intuit’s QuickBooks as an example, saying that Intuit did a horrible job of marketing it when it was originally released. They had no idea who would use it, and refused to believe all the evidence saying that small businesses were buying it – because they never thought that small businesses would use it. They thought it was a consumer product.
