TV As A Computer Remote Control
from the does-anyone-want-this? dept
It’s not exactly clear how or when this would be really useful, but NBC in association with Digital:Convergence are going to release a product that will let you use your television as a “remote control” to call web pages from your computer. Knowing Digital:Convergence’s history, it makes you wonder what sort of data they’ll be collecting from you each time you do this. Plus, just like they claimed the cue:cat was the biggest revolution since the mouse (though, apparently only folks who worked at the company actually believed) they’ll probably claim this is the biggest innovation since TV itself. I’d say the company has a credibility problem.

Actually, i am looking for the opposite of this, I want to control the TV channels, relative to time, through my computer. This will require a program, of which I could write myself, and an IR transmitter controlled by the computer. Any thoughts?

Television Computers
That’s funny – my boss and I were talking about this the other day. He was saying that no one had thought much about phones being computers until Apple came around and changed the game. Now Apple is synonymous with smartphones. He then went on to say that Apple should do the same thing with t.v.s. It would be a simple, out-of-the-box t.v. that was also a computer and could be controlled by your phone as a remote.
It would be very intuitive and let’s face it. A lot of us already have our t.v. hooked up to our computer to play videos (both movies, and webby ones) so it makes sense. Maybe this is what they were trying to go after?
