Online Communities Endure

from the can't-shut-'em-down dept

There was a period of time when every new internet company was focused on making money off of “online communities”. Now most of those companies are shutting down – but the communities are living on. Online communities are pretty strong, and valuable for the members, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an easy way to make money off of them. The article rambles on a bit, but eventually concludes that while the community platforms may change and evolve, people will continue to gather online in groups. Well, phew. I was beginning to get worried that we were all going off into our own little private cyberspace cocoon shells just because some online community software sites were going out of business.
