Recently I was talking with some people about how it would be cool if it were possible to take data from sports events, and connect it to various video games of that sport via the internet – so that people could “watch” the game through the video game representation. Now, however, Intel and OradNet have worked out a system where they’ll stream the data from soccer games and you’ll be able to watch the games from any view you want (even the ball). The article doesn’t say what form the “representations” will take, but with the amount of data they’re sending through, it can’t be too detailed. It would still make a lot more sense to let the individual’s computer do the processing power and attach the data to some software. Of course, I’m sure that the NBA and MLB would want to charge extra for such things…
