All E-Commerce Is Local

from the geography-matters dept

An interesting article suggesting that, despite all the talk of how location is irrelevant on the internet, it does matter when it comes to e-commerce. There’s been a lot of talk about location-based services – but people are generally talking about wireless m-commerce (which is a joke anyway). This article is about figuring out where people are coming from via their IP addresses to offer location specific information (and advertisements). There’s also the possibility that companies that have geographic rights (such as for sports broadcasting) can make use of location specific info to allow them to broadcast more to people in certain locations.
