Salon Starts Charging

from the free-content-going-away? dept

Not that it’s a huge surprise, but Salon has now announced plans to charge for premium, ad-free content. What’s interesting is that this seems to be accepted by most people to be a good way to go (if still questionable). However, it wasn’t so long ago that Slate.com, TheStreet.com and others gave up on such ideas as not working. Why do online sites suddenly think it will work this time? More importantly, will it actually work this time?
