No More Snow Days Thanks To The Web

from the that's-awful dept

One of the nice things about living in California is that you almost never see snow (unless you want to head up to the mountains). That’s the adult in me – who got sick of driving in the snow – speaking. However, as a kid, growing up in a colder climate on a different coast, snow meant days off from school along with lots of sledding and snowball fights (and hot chocolate afterwards). Now, some horribly evil teacher in the New York City school system is trying to do away with snow days by posting “extra credit” assignments on the web when that happens. I’m all for adding the internet to the classroom experience (if done intelligently), but snow days are sacred. Most of the article is actually about ways that this one teacher tries to involve the internet in his teaching – and most of it seems to be very good. But, no snow days? Man, that would have sucked.
