Violence On Trial

from the those-dark-corners-of-the-internet-again dept

Zakk writes “Do computer games and violent movies contribute to a more violent society? This article, based around the recently released report by the US Surgeon General, seems to suggest that it doesn’t. Others disagree, including a high power legislative group in Congress. Personally I think that whilst it desensitises youth, it does no more to encourage violent acts than rock music. I often get the urge to throw a brick at the radio during a Spice Girls track!” What’s more interesting in this article is how little media attention the Surgeon General’s report received. If it had said differently – that video games and violent movies add to violent tendencies – it would have been reported everywhere.
