Impersonating People Online

Found over at GeekPress is an article about a guy named David Gallagher who decided to impersonate a famous kid actor with the same name after people kept contacting him using AOL instant messenger and asking if they were the same person. While it started out okay, things went bad quickly. What I want to know is why this David Gallagher was stupid enough to put his name and info in the public directory?
