Miramax To Show Full Length Films Online

from the experimenting dept

Miramax is about to begin experimenting with offering downloadable movies. They’re going to release a movie online that will require a $3.49 charge and can then be viewed for the period of 24 hours. They claim, of course, that there’s technology that will prevent it from being viewed after that period, though I’m sure someone will have that cracked within a week or so. I also doubt this will catch on in this form. People have to pay just as much as they would at the local video store, and they’ll still have to wait while 500 megs of movie download. If anything goes wrong with the download (and it will) they’ll just get frustrated. Plus, the fact that they only have a 24 hour deadline to watch the movie in is just going to anger people even more when they have technical problems.
