eBay Resets Spam Preferences

from the oh,-we-thought-you-really-wanted-spam dept

Which idiot marketing person thought this one up? In response to a supposed “glitch” in the eBay signup form, eBay decided to automatically sign up may of their users for spam even if they requested not to receive it. They claim that they’re doing this because many users “accidentally” opted out of the spam when they meant to opt in. So, because of this glitch, tons of users suddenly have been told that their original preferences have been reset to receive spam – because apparently, eBay would rather assume that their users are too stupid to understand how to click a box than that people simply don’t want extra coporate spam. This is the ultimate in stupid corporate moves. Were they receiving complaints from users who were upset that their eBay spams weren’t showing up?
