Starting Education Online At An Early Age
from the does-it-help? dept
A look at some areas where “distance learning” is being used in K-12 education. While most people think of distance learning as a college-level idea, there are some applications for younger students. Many people feel it’s helpful for children who are already being home-schooled, or for children with disabilities. Of course, the article only presents one side of this question. I’ve heard many people talk in the past why they think distance learning for younger students could be dangerous. I’m surprised the article doesn’t have at least one quote from someone saying this is destroying the very fabric of our society.

I saw this happening in my high school every day. I live in a city that’s large for my province, and distance education was used to teach kids in grades 8-12 in many rural areas subjects that they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to learn. I think it is a great idea, and the kids could even call in real-time with questions or answers. It allows students to tap resources that they definitely wouldn’t have had otherwise.
