Encyclopedia Or Web Site?

from the who-can-tell? dept

Some guy at Cornell started taking really good notes on math a while back. He put them up on a web page and they were a big hit. He even convinced someone to publish a book of these notes, and they were a big hit too. Then, he decided to go back to working on the website. Another company agreed to “sponsor” the website. Here’s where the problems come in. The sponsor of the website, and the publisher of the book are competitors. Time to start the lawsuits. The book publisher claims they own the rights to the website as well, even though they’ve been updated. It does bring up some questions about how the new economy and old economy publishing worlds need to work together.
