Problems With Search Engines

from the they-don't-work dept

Most articles that talk about search engines focus on the big search engines that cover the entire internet (or, rather, the small part of the entire internet that they hope will suffice). This article talks about that too, but also points out that most search engines that just appear on various corporate websites don’t work well at all. The results often don’t make sense and don’t get you to where you want to go quickly. They suggest next generation technologies will hopefully fix some of this, and points to AskJeeves as an example. Personally, every time I’ve ever used AskJeeves I’ve gotten back nonsense results. I don’t know if I just ask the wrong questions, but it has never given me back what I was looking for.
